Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I register my dancer?

    • You can register your dancer directly through our website.

      • You will require a password to register as a competitive dancer or a returning dancer. Please check our facebook page and/or your email (if you signed up for the email list last year) for the relevant password. No password will be required for new dancer registration.

    • You must register only one dancer per transaction, as we need to ensure we capture all registration information at checkout.

    • Payment: You will pay at checkout. Our website uses Paypal as the payment processor. You do not need to have a PayPal account to checkout, it will give you the option of paying by credit card without an account. If you would rather pay directly through your bank account, we recommend getting a PayPal account, it’s free! We cannot guarantee that all Visa/MC Debit cards will be accepted by PayPal.

    • You are not registered until you are redirected back from the PayPal site and click to confirm your registration on our website. If you only complete the steps on the PayPal site, your dancer’s registration will not come through, and you will not be guaranteed a spot in the class. If registration is successfully completed, you will be taken to a confirmation page, and you should receive a confirmation email (please take care to ensure to correctly input your email address to ensure it is not misdirected).

    • Waitlist: If a class is full, the website will display this to you and allow you to sign up for a waitlist. This real-time updating will allow you to know immediately if there is space in a class or if you should sign your dancer up for a different class. If you are on the waitlist, you will be notified if and when a place in the desired class becomes available. Waitlists do not apply to the Spring session, as dancers are only eligible to join the same classes they were registered for in the Winter session.

    • Mailing List: At checkout, you will have the option to be added to our mailing list. We will use this mailing list only to send you specific information about dance (i.e. - recital information, future registration information, etc.). If you have signed up for our mailing list in the past, please re-sign up, as we utilize a new list for each dance term.

    • You will have the option to create an account on the website. This will allow you to track your orders and see what classes you have signed up for, and may make future registrations quicker for you.

    • Family Discount: If you have 2 or more dancers in the same family, you are eligible for $10 off the second dancer’s total fees. Please use code FAMILY10 on your second registration at checkout. This code can be used only on every second family member (2nd, 4th, etc). If you use this code and are not eligible, your order may be cancelled (dance fees, but not processing fees, refunded) and you may have to re-register.

    2. How do I know if my registration is confirmed?

    • During registration, you will be directed to PayPal to input your payment details (see above). Following that, you will be redirected back to our website. If you do not finish the checkout process on our website, your registration will not be completed.

    • You will be directed to a confirmation page and will then receive a confirmation email after you have registered which lists the classes you have registered and paid for. Your registration will be manually reviewed to ensure your dancer is eligible for the classes they have been signed up for, and you will receive an “Order Finalized” email once this step has been completed. This may take up to10 days to receive so please have patience with this step. In the meantime, your space has been reserved in your desired class.

    • Given the above, it is very important that you confirm you are registering your dancer for classes they are eligible for. Please review age and other requirements before registering. All of this information is listed clearly on the website beside each class, and you should confirm it at checkout as well.

    • If your dancer is signed up for a class for which they are not eligible, your full order may be cancelled, and you may have to re-register for all classes. The amount paid for classes will be refunded, but the processing fee will not be.

    3. Which classes is my dancer eligible to sign up for?

    • For the Spring term, dancers are only eligible to register for classes for which they were registered for and participated in in the Winter term.

    • There are a few different eligibility criteria depending on the class:

      • Age: your dancer is eligible for a class if they fall within the correct age range by the first day of class.

      • Experience: There are leveled classes for ballet, tap, acro, some jazz, and adult classes. If your dancer is new to a type of dance, they must start in the lowest level or beginner class.

        • Note ballet and acro are year-long programs and only accept new students in the fall term.

      • By invitation: A few classes are by invitation only, and therefore if you have not been contacted about joining the class, you are not eligible to register for the class.

      • Competition classes: Competition classes are only available for those individuals who have successfully auditioned for and been selected for the competition team.

    4. If my dancer finds (s)he isn’t suited to the type of dance I registered them for, can I get a refund?

    • No, unfortunately there are no refunds except in the case that the dancer signs up for a class they are not eligible for, or the family discount code is used when it should not have been. In both of these cases, dance fees will be refunded, but processing fees will not be.

Step-by-Step Registration Walkthrough

Classes by Age and Discipline:

Important Note about completing registration:
Your registration is not final until you are redirected back from PayPal to the Spotlights and Sequins website, and then you click “Purchase”. Your registration has not come through until you click purchase and are taken to a confirmation page.

You do not need to have a PayPal account to register. When you are directed to PayPal, underneath the option to sign in you will have an option to checkout as guest, or checkout with debit/credit card, and you can select that option. Please view the walkthrough (above) if you are having issues.

If you do not complete registration appropriately, your dancer does not have a guaranteed spot in their dance class(es) of choice, and we cannot guarantee a spot will be available when registration is completed.

Note that PayPal will place a hold on your type of payment prior to you completing registration. If registration is not completed, this hold will be reversed within a few hours. Please do not count on the PayPal transaction statement to ensure registration is completed.

Please take care to ensure you complete the final step of registration fully to ensure space(s) in your dancer’s preferred class(es). You will be taken to a confirmation page once you have completed it, and you should receive a confirmation email. Please take care to input your correct email address to ensure it is not misdirected.

One dancer per transaction:
You must only register only one dancer per transaction. If you have two dancers in your family, you must register for all classes for one dancer and then checkout; and then start again and register for classes for your other dancer and checkout again. This is because, at checkout, you will be asked for the personal information for your dancer, so we need to have separate records.

Requirements:
For the Spring term, new dancers are not accepted in any classes.

When you go to register, you'll note each class has a "requirements" section. It is very important that you review this section for each class you sign your dancer up for. This section will outline what conditions your dancer must meet to register for a class. If your dancer is signed up for a class which they are not eligible for, your entire registration may be cancelled, and your class fees (but not processing fees) will be refunded.

Notable requirements include:

  • Age: Dancer must be the within the age range listed for each class by the first day of the class for the winter term. Unfortunately, if your child turns the required age later in the year, they are not eligible to join the class. Regardless of your dancer’s age, they are not able to join any new classes for the Spring term.

  • Ballet: Ballet levels are graded, and are not related to the grade your dancer is in in school. New ballet students who are 6 must start in beginner ballet, new ballet students who are 7+ must start in ballet grade 1. Most grades take two years to complete, but please confirm with Nancie Hutt if you are unsure for your dancer.
Ballet classes (with the exception of beginner ballet) are on a year-long program. New dancers may only enroll in the fall term. If your child does not participate in a ballet class in the fall term they are not eligible to register for that class during the Winter or Spring terms.

  • Tap: Tap classes are also levelled. If your dancer is new to tap, they must sign up for Tap 1. New this year: Tap level 3 is now renamed Tap 2.

Dancers can only move to higher tap levels once indicated by one of the dance teachers.

  • Acro: Acro classes are on a year-long program. New dancers may only enroll in the fall term. If your child did not participate in an acro class in the fall term they are not eligible to register for that class during the Winter term.

  • Competition Classes: Your dancer must have successfully tried out for, and been accepted on the competition teams in order to join the competition classes.
